While I welcome your comments on my posts, there are still many site owners who are ignorant of what constitutes spam.

So I decided to give you some pointers as to what NOT to leave me as a comment. You see, I have a do follow policy at my blogs, which means when you post a comment, you automatically gain a one-way back link to your site.

That’s worth a lot in the eyes of the search engines and will contribute to your own site’s rising page rank over time. So I at least expect a half decent comment that is relevant to the post it was written about, otherwise I will delete it. Simple as that.

So here’s what will get deleted between my spam filter and my manual moderation panel:

  • Comments which are full of links and no text = spam = DELETED
  • Comments that don’t add any value to the blog, ie one liners (see below) = DELETED
  • Comments which are nonsense = DELETED
  • Comments advertising porn, hate or anything I deem spam related = DELETED
  • Comments that are obviously copied and pasted and used often = DELETED

However, good, well written, thought provoking, relevant comments = APPROVED!

One-liners:

I hate these useless and pointless short phrases and anything similar. I will delete them. Here’s some examples so you get the gist:

  • “I agree” - (with what?)
  • “Good post” - (…and?)
  • “Great blog you have here” - (I know that already!)
  • “Yes” - (No!)
  • “Buy Viagra” - (I’d rather buy horse dung!)
  • “Visit my site at…” - (Not bloody likely!)

You get the idea. Just don’t waste your time because this type of thing will NEVER be accepted so it will NEVER get you a back link so you ARE wasting your time.
