Where did Google Page Rank Go?

Postby Tel » Thu Oct 06, 2011 7:30 am

This is weird. is anyone else noticing this?

I opened one of my PR3 sites in Firefox this morning and the PR bar shows grey - same for all sites even Google itself. I upgraded FF to 7.0.1 a couple of days ago and I know some of the plugins are not updated yet, but the SEO toolbar was working fine yesterday and now its showing PR N/A for any site I open.

Is this just something weird happening, has G stripped out PR, or is this just some odd memorial to the passing of Steve Jobs?

Interesting. Its not an update, because the bar never goes grey for all sites for so long when that happens.

I wonder if Google has suddenly decided to drop PR altogether. Now that would be very interesting!

Looks like its a false alarm. Here's a quote from one source:

Users around the world have started noticing this morning that the tools they use to determine Google’s PageRank are no longer working.

SEO’s in Australia, the UK and the US have taken to various forums to complain about the issue, however, it seems that it’s all unnecessary whining as Google has simply updated the URL used to query PR (and who cares about PR anyway?)

Although it does seem that most extensions aren’t yet savvy to the update as we’ve updated/uninstalled a couple in Chrome which still aren’t working (you can obviously tell from the ‘last updated’ date of the extension). This also seems to be the case with more PR checker websites so out guess is we’ll need to wait for an official announcement from Google before tools start getting updated.

Actually, damn! I would have liked to see the end of page rank - just think how many pissed off link buyers and sellers there would be LMAO!
