Hey Freddie,

Thanks for this warning. Unfortunately many people are still falling prey to these scams. It's always good to get a re-fresher.

I never ever open any emails from any official company such as banks, paypal or even my internet service provider. They don't send out emails if there is a problem, they call I believe.

Hope this will help others though

I have one from paypal a while ago saying I'd made a purchase of about $500 from a radio control vehicle store.

I started stressing straight away because I knew for a fact that I hadn't purchased anything.

I looked up the store that I supposedly purchased from and sent them an email and they replied immediately saying someone had hacked into their website.

They said not to worry because there has been no payment taken from my account.

What the scammers did was put a bit at the end of the paypal email saying if you thought this email was in error click here to file a dispute - and if you clicked on that click here link, they would get access to your details.

Thankfully, I didn't notice that link and contacted the store directly.

Anyway, just another way that these people can get you claiming they are from paypal - and the email looked identical to the paypal logos and layout etc too.

Thanks for the warning Freddie.

I have one saving grace with Paypal - as I live in Spain, they automatically email me in Spanish! So if I ever see an email from Paypal in English, I'll know it has to be fishy!
